Rupert Friend wouldn't visit Auschwitz in case it jeopardised his film performance.
The actor - who is dating his 'Pride and Prejudice' co-star Keira Knightley - did not want the horrors of the second world war concentration camp to bring "normalcy" to his performance as a Nazi in 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'
He said: "I don't think I could have gone.
"It was important that I concentrated on seeing the war as a 'normal' part of life.
"I think if I had visited Auschwitz and seen the atrocities of the concentration camp first hand, I wouldn't have been able to bring that objectivity and, for lack of a better word, normalcy to the role."
'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' is in cinemas worldwide now.

... if he had seen the horrors than he would not be able to be as "cold" as his character had to be.... he would probably start tearing up every scene he did, if he had seen the remnants of what his character's career involved doing... would anypne agree?
